Crisis? What crisis?

What is the connection between the economic crisis and English football?

Global economic depression seems to slowly go away. Most of European countries have recently noted small GDP growth. Unfortunately, the world of football is just entering the financial crisis.

According to “Daily Telegraph”, the recently closed transfer window has been the lowest in England since 2003. English clubs spent only 50 million pounds, which is almost nothing if compared with last year's score of 190 million (in January 2009). Half of that expenses was generated by Manchester City and Tottenham alone. It means that these two spent more last year than all clubs today. Quite a financial drop, isn't it?

What that can mean to us, football fans? That transfer windows will be boring, just as the last one were. No spectacular changes, no huge amounts paid for the best players.
Well, actually I must admit that I don't like serious changes. I always feel a bit odd, when I find out that some club symbols such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Kaka had changed their employer. However, sometimes changes are good, and what would football look like without transfers? It's better not even to think about it.
