Is the World Cup 2010 in RSA in danger?

For most people in Europe (and in the USA as well), Africa looks the same everywhere. It is dangerous, hot and poor there. Last incidents in Angola during African Cup of Nations just confirmed this unfavourable opinion. Therefore, 4 months before the most important event in the football world, FIFA managed to sell only 2 out of 3 million tickets. Only a few matches had been sold out, eg. semi finals, final and the group stage hit – Brazil vs. Portugal.

Europeans are those who have the most objections. English fans bought 23 out of 29 thousand of tickets, the Dutch supporters – 7 out of 22 thousand and the Germans only 6,2 of 21 thousand. According to Franz Beckenbauer, the African World Cup is too expensive. The cheapest tickets on the opening match RSA – Mexico cost 140 euros! Other group stage tickets can be bought from the price of 56 euros.

What's more, the plane tickets to South Africa aren't that cheap and will get even more expensive just before the World Cup. Accommodation costs are also very high – a night in a three – stars hotel is an expense over 100 euros, a four – stars hotel – 400 euros. For an ordinary football fan such prices are simply too high to be accepted.

And, of course, although RSA is not Angola, it is still quite dangerous there. It is estimated that in South Africa about 50 people are killed daily. The RSA government and FIFA assure that they will do their best to ensure fans and footballers' safety. They probably will, but are they able to convince people all over the world, that they can guarantee enough protection? We shall hope they are.
