Ordina Open and AEGON International: “warm up” for Wimbledon

Do you feel the same as I do? I’m dying to see all the tennis stars in their white dresses at Wimbledon very soon. The most fancy dressed up Grand Slam of all four will take place in London from next Monday on.
Until then, let’s get started with some smaller tournaments. This week: Ordina Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands) and AEGON International in Eastbourne (UK). Women and men will compete in both cities.
Women and men in Eastbourne
The competition in Eastbourne has been held since 1974. Due to the lack of sponsorship and some other general reorganisation of UK tennis, the English courts host a combined women’s and men’s event. Until last year, it used to be an exclusive WTA tournament. Last year’s champion Agnieszka Radwanska and runner-up Nadia Petrova are going to compete this year as well. Furthermore, Elena Dementieva, Jelena Jankovic, Marion Bartoli and Svetlana Kuztensova will do their Wimledon warm-up in Eastbourne. Amongst others, Igor Andreev, Fabrice Santoro and Dmitry Tsurnov are contesting the men’s tournament.
Third title for Safina in 2009?
The Ordina Open have been held since 1990 for men and since 1996 for women. Especially Spanish, French and German male players compete for the title this year. French Open 2009 runner-up and number 1 in the WTA ranking Dinara Safina wants to add a third title to her 2009 season (after Rome and Madrid). Her catchiest opponents are Dominika Cibulkova, Sorana Cirstea and Flavia Pennetta.
It’s the final countdown! Follow the matches in Eastbourne and s’Hertogenbusch on BeterZ and place your bets so that the time until Wimbledon flies by!
